Legal News Update: Will schools be closed due to rain tomorrow, August 27? Check state-wise list here
The southwest monsoon remains active across several parts of the country, leaving students and parents waiting for clarity on whether schools will remain closed on Thursday, August 27, due to rain, waterlogging and other weather-related disruptions. As of August 26, there is no nationwide school holiday announced for August 27. School closure decisions will instead depend on state governments, district administrations and individual schools, particularly in areas where heavy rain has affected roads, transport and public safety. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across several regions, including Uttarakhand, eastern India and parts of the Northeast. Isolated heavy rainfall is also expected over Odisha, Jharkhand and Bihar during this period.
Delhi-NCR and Gurugram
For Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad and Gurugram, no general school closure has been announced for August 27 so far.The IMD has forecast generally cloudy skies over Delhi on Thursday, with very light to light rain possible at several places from morning to forenoon.Gurugram, however, continues to face rain-related disruptions. The district administration has issued safety directions for school buses during the monsoon, asking schools to avoid waterlogged routes and make alternative arrangements where required. The directions will remain in force until September 30 or further orders. This comes after Gurugram schools were shifted to online classes on August 25 following heavy rain, waterlogging and traffic disruptions. There is no fresh district-wide school closure order confirmed for August 27 at present.
Uttarakhand
Uttarakhand remains one of the regions where students and parents need to follow local announcements closely. The IMD has forecast widespread rainfall in the state. With heavy rain raising the risk of landslides, blocked roads and disruption to school transport in hill areas, district administrations may announce closures depending on conditions on the ground. There is no statewide closure confirmed for August 27 at present. School-specific or district-level orders, however, could still be issued if commuting conditions deteriorate.
Odisha
Odisha is also expected to receive significant rain on August 27. The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall in the state, with the possibility of very heavy rain in the following days.Several districts may take precautionary measures if rainfall affects roads and school transport. Any closure is therefore expected to be decided at the district level rather than through a statewide holiday announcement.
Jharkhand and Bihar
Rainfall is expected to continue over Jharkhand, with the IMD forecasting activity through August 29. Bihar may also see rain, including isolated heavy spells.Neither state has a confirmed statewide school closure for August 27. District administrations may, however, issue separate orders if flooding, waterlogging or unsafe roads affect normal movement.
West Bengal, Sikkim and Northeast
Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are among the areas expected to see increased rainfall. The IMD has specifically forecast isolated heavy rainfall over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on August 27 and 28.In these areas, local authorities may announce school closures if rainfall creates unsafe travel conditions. Similar district-level decisions could be taken in parts of the Northeast, where rainfall activity is also expected to increase.
So, will schools be closed on August 27?
There is no nationwide school closure due to rain on August 27. Most schools are expected to follow their regular schedule unless a state, district administration or individual institution announces otherwise. The situation is different in areas facing flooding, waterlogging, landslides or unsafe commuting conditions. Uttarakhand, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, parts of West Bengal, Sikkim and the Northeast are among the regions where students should watch for local orders.Parents are advised to check their district administration’s latest notification and their school’s official communication before sending children to school on August 27.
